ISLAMABAD — Cynthia Ritchie, an American filmmaker, analyst and social media campaigner, is furious at Jamiat Ulama-e-Islam Pakistan President Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman for the reasons best known to her for now.

However, her latest tweet early Saturday morning in response to a Twitter post by the Maulana gives a hint about what really has happened and why Ritchie is so angry at the Pakistani religious figure.

Commenting on the Maulana’s Twitter post, Ritchie wrote, “You are a disgrace to Islam & humanity. Genuine Maulanas should hold you accountable.”

Ritchie, who has been living in Pakistan since 2010 and campaigning through social media to uplift the overall image of Pakistan, added, “Do not be perverse to another female or child; do not retrace the steps of RM.”

She didn’t stop here and went on to say, “If we ever cross paths again, you are encouraged to lower your gaze, otherwise I will take corrective measures.”

A few hours earlier, the Maulana, who is also president of the ruling Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), reiterated that ousted prime minister Imran Khan’s alleged statement in favour of the British author of Indian origin Salman Rushdie has proved once again that he is an agent of the foreign powers, especially Jews, disguised as a Pakistani and a Muslim.

He said that Khan earlier released blasphemers Asia Bibi and Abdul Shakoor Qadiani, who later escaped to Europe and the United States, respectively.
