LAHORE — A lower court on Sunday rejected the request of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to extend the physical remand of Bol News anchor Jameel Farooqui and sent him on judicial remand.

Farooqui had appeared in the court of Civil Judge Yasir Chaudhry along with his lawyer Mian Ali Ashfaq.

Farooqui was arrested in Karachi almost a week ago for “falsely accusing” Islamabad Police of physically and sexually assaulting PTI leader Shahbaz Gill.

Hours later, Farooqui was seen at the Karachi airport in the custody of Islamabad Police. While being transported to Islamabad, Farooqui said he was tortured, stripped and kept at an undisclosed location for more than 12 hours.

A Karachi judge had handed custody of Farooqui to Islamabad Police after granting a three-day transitory remand to shift him to the federal capital.

Bol TV Editor-in-Chief Nazir Leghari and a journalist body said Farooqui was picked up late Sunday night on his way home from work after conducting his show.
