LAHORE – Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi, who owns a number of news TV channels in Pakistan and abroad, was sworn in as the caretaker chief minister of Punjab on Sunday.

Punjab Governor Muhammad Baligh Ur Rehman administered the oath of Punjab Chief Minister’s Office to Mohsin Naqvi.

The provincial chapter of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) appointed Mohsin Naqvi as caretaker chief minister of Punjab after the ruling coalition led by the outgoing Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Parvez Elahi and the arch-rival Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) failed to reach a consensus on the name of the caretaker chief minister in Punjab.

The current CEO of City42 and 24News channels operating under the umbrella of the City News Network (CNN), Mohsin Naqvi was born in Lahore on October 28, 1978 and received his primary education at Crescent Model School in the Punjab capital. He graduated from the Government College University (GCU) Lahore and then went to the United States of America (USA) for further education in media sciences.

During his stay in the coastal city of Miami, Mohsin Naqvi joined the American news channel CNN as a correspondent. Later, he returned to Pakistan and was appointed the youngest Regional Head of South Asia.

Mohsin Naqvi, who founded the City News Network in 2009, now owns six news channels – City42, City41, UK44, 24News and Rohi TV. In addition, Mohsin Naqvi is the Chief Editor of Daily 42, a tabloid newspaper published in Lahore.

Politically, Mohsin Naqvi is related to the Chaudhrys of Gujrat. Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari calls him his son. He is also considered close to the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N). Recently, he was seen coming out of Holy Ka’aba with a delegation led by General Asim Munir, the Pakistani chief of the army staff (COAS).
