GUJRANWALA – As the witch-hunt continues across Pakistan, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) President Chaudhry Parvez Elahi was arrested for the third time soon after he was acquitted in two corruption cases on Saturday.
On Friday, Elahi was acquitted in a corruption case in Lahore and re-arrested immediately by officials of the Punjab Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE). ACE officials produced Elahi in the court of Judicial Magistrate Muhammad Afzal in Gujranwala on Saturday and sought his 14-day physical remand. In its verdict on Saturday evening, the court rejected ACE’s plea and acquitted Elahi in both corruption cases.
Soon after the Gujranwala court announced its verdict, ACE officials arrested Elahi once again, this time for “illegally” recruiting people to the Punjab Assembly during his tenure as speaker.

Reacting to Elahi’s arrest, Elahi’s son Moonis Elahi, who is a former federal minister, said that rulers were pursuing personal vendetta against his father.
