ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has approved Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed’s request for early retirement.

Lt-Gen Faiz Hameed, who is currently serving as Bahawalpur Corps Commander, had submitted an application to the General Headquarters (GHQ) of the Pakistan Army for early retirement from his position a few days ago.

According to sources, the GHQ had forwarded Hameed’s request to the Defence Ministry of Pakistan. The Defence Minister accepted Hameed’s application and then sent it to Prime Minister’s Office for final approval.

Lt-Gen Hameed, who earlier served as Peshawar Corps Commander and director general (DG) of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), was one of the six top generals of the Pakistan Army who were in the race for army chief’s office.

However, Prime Minister Sharif picked General Syed Asim Munir as the new chief of army staff (COAS) of the Pakistan Army and General Sahir Shamshad Mirza as the new chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC).
