RIYADH – A former head of a government security agency in Saudi Arabia has been sentenced to 25 years in prison.

According to an organisation working for the rights of prisoners in Saudi Arabia, Lt-Gen Khalid bin Qarar Al-Harbi, former director of Saudi Arabia’s Public Security, was facing charges like corruption and misuse of power.

In September 2021, King Salman had removed Al-Harbi from his position.

According to the Saudi Press Agency, Al-Harbi had been accused of taking public funds for personal benefit and committing crimes like forgery, bribery and abuse of power along with 18 private and public sector employees.

Al-Harbi’s services were terminated and he was retired and referred to the Oversight and Anti-Corruption Authority for investigation.
