Former Pakistani star cricketer and skipper Shahid Khan Afridi on Sunday rejected the reports that he issued any statement against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan.

Taking to Instagram, Afridi said that a statement against Imran Khan attributed to him had been circulating on social media since yesterday. He said it was unfortunate that some people were dragging him into the “dirty politics”.

Afridi, who was appointed interim chief selector for Pakistan national men’s cricket team by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) in December 2022, said that he was neither part of this dirty politics nor he wanted to be. He said he had the courage to say anything directly if he wants to. He said nobody could show any statement from his side against Imran Khan on any social media platform.

Afridi said that he was interested only in one kind of politics and that was serving this country and its people. “That’s it. Thank you!” he concluded his video message with these words.

Afridi, an all-rounder and former captain of Pakistan’s national cricket team, was a right-handed leg spinner and a right-handed batsman. He made his ODI debut in 1996 against Kenya.

Recently, Afridi came under fire from PTI supporters for heaping praise on Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s “management skills”.

Soon after Sharif was elected the 23rd Prime Minister of Pakistan after Imran Khan’s removal from the premier’s office, Afridi was quick to greet him in the following words: “Congratulations to Shehbaz Sharif on being elected the 23rd Prime Minister of Pakistan.”

“…I hope that he will be able to use his management skills to bring Pakistan out of the current economic and political crisis,” the former captain had tweeted back in April 2022.
