The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on Monday suspended international flights and banned foreigners’ entry through land and seaports for a week after a new and fast-spreading strain of coronavirus was found to be wreaking havoc in the United Kingdom.

Quoting the kingdom’s Interior Ministry, Saudi Arabia’s official Saudi Press Agency said the suspension of flights and land and sea routes was temporary, but it could be extended. However, international flights already in the kingdom have been allowed to leave.

Saudi Arabia launched a three-phase Covid-19 vaccination programme last week after first shipments of the vaccine arrived in the kingdom from abroad.
