Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar has tested positive for coronavirus, said a spokesperson for the provincial government on Monday.

The spokesperson says the chief minister has quarantined himself at home and will continue to perform important duties from home.

Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan, special assistant to the Punjab chief minister for information, said in a tweet that Buzdar caught coronavirus despite all precautionary measures. She said that spread of coronavirus was the result of the anti-government gatherings being organised by the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM).

Punjab Governor Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar, Federal Science and Technology Minister Chaudhry Fawad Hussain and Punjab Food Minister Aleem Khan wished Buzdar good health and quick recovery from the viral infection.

Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani also phoned Buzdar and prayed for his early recovery from Covid-19.
