PM tells Bajwa to continue as special assistant

Asim Saleem Bajwa, special assistant to the prime minister (SAPM) on information and broadcasting, met Prime Minister Imran Khan on Friday and submitted his resignation.
According to Prime Minister’s Office, the prime minister did not accept Bajwa’s resignation. Explaining it further, the Prime Minister’s Office said that Khan was satisfied with Bajwa’s explanation and the documentary evidence he presented relating to his family’s businesses, therefore, he refused to accept Bajwa’s resignation.

Bajwa, a retired three-star general of the Pakistan Army, has been accused of amassing wealth and helping his close family members set up and strengthen businesses during his years in the armed forces. Bajwa has however denied the allegations.

Against this backdrop, Bajwa offered to resign as special assistant to the prime minister. Bajwa, who is also serving as chairman of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) Authority, said he would continue to work as head of the authority however.
