LONDON – As Pakistan remains in the grip of an unprecedented political uncertainty, the top leadership of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) met in London this week and made some key decisions on appointment of the new army chief.

General Qamar Javed Bajwa, the incumbent Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), is going to retire from his office later this month. He has already started farewell visits to various formations of the Pakistan Army, says the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), media affairs wing of the Pakistan Army.

As all eyes right now are on the appointment of the new army chief, there are reports that Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met his elder brother and three-time prime minister Nawaz Sharif in London this week and discussed with him one of the most critical issues currently facing Pakistan.

According to reports, Nawaz and Shehbaz have decided to uphold merit in appointment of the new army chief and appoint the senior most general to the most powerful office of the country.
