Nawaz Sharif’s mother Begum Shamim Akhtar dies in London


Mother of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and Shehbaz Sharif, Begum Shamim Akhtar, passed away after a prolonged illness in London. She was 93.

In a tweet, PML-N leader Attaullah Tarar announced the death of Begum Shamim Akhtar. Tarar said Suleman Shehbaz made a telephonic contact with him and said that arrangements were being made to take his grandmother’s body to Lahore for burial.

Begum Shamim Akhtar went to London on February 15, 2020 to meet his son Nawaz Sharif. She was not feeling well for the last four days. She breathed her last on Sunday. Maryam Nawaz was informed about the demise of her grandmother when she was in Peshawar for a public gathering held under the banner of the Pakistan Democratic Movement. She skipped her speech and left Peshawar for Lahore.
