ISLAMABAD – Amid the ongoing crackdown on the leaders and supporters of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), the Pakistani government has cancelled diplomatic passports of nine PTI leaders.
Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Asad Umar, Azam Swati, Pervaiz Khattak, Ali Amin Gandapur, Farrukh Habib, Aun Abbas, Zartaj Gul Wazir and Ali Muhammad Khan are the PTI leaders whose diplomatic passports have been cancelled.
Moreover, the government has suspended the diplomatic passport of Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, chief of the Awami Muslim League (AML) and an ally of Imran Khan’s PTI.
The people who have diplomatic passports get special treatment at the time of visa processing, airport checking and travelling as opposed to people travelling on ordinary passports.
Names of hundreds of PTI leaders, including Chairman Imran Khan, and supporters were placed on the no-fly list this week.
